Brunei Foods

Hello,

Welcome to my blog, I’ll discuss to you guys about Bruneian foods

1. Ambuyat

Ambuyat

Ambuyat is a dish derived from the interior trunk of the sago palm. It is a starchy bland substance, similar to tapioca starch. Ambuyat is the national dish of Brunei, and a local delicacy in the Malaysian states of Sarawak, Sabah, and the federal territory of Labuan, where it is sometimes known as linut.

Ambuyat is eaten with a bamboo fork called a chandas, by rolling the starch around the prongs and then dipping it into a sauce, of which there are many varieties.

There is a similar dish in eastern Indonesia called papeda.

2. Nasi Katok

Nasi Katok

Nasi Katok is a typical food from Brunei Darussalam. As a staple food for the majority of Asian countries, rice can be easily found on every menu in a number of countries in Asia. The easy way to plant it and has a high nutrient content, rice is generally used as a staple food for Asian citizens. Likewise with Nasi Katok which makes it daily food for consumption by the people of Brunei. The presentation of Nasi Katok using plastic food containers, makes Nasi Katok as a fast food typical of Brunei. Nasi Katok is easily found in the districts of Brunei. Starting from the tavern to the restaurant serves this menu. For the people of Indonesia, nasi katok is not much different from nasi bungkus which is commonly found in Indonesia, one portion of katok rice includes side dishes in it.

3. Honey Garlic Pizzapizza

Honey Garlic Pizza is  an odd choice as you are probably thinking that Pizza isn’t a typically Asian cuisine, let alone being from Brunei. Its not the pizza itself that makes this dish unique, it is the choice of topping. Nowhere else in the world can you find the Honey Garlic Chicken Pizza. Originating from Pizza Hut Brunei, this pizza encompasses the Bruneian spirit of creating an amazing taste experience, by mixing both sweet and savoury ingredients. A bite of this fantastic pizza, fills your pallet with the savoy tones of the gooey cheese and combines it with the sweet flavours of the drizzled honey. This taste sensation has spread beyond Pizza Hut and has been replicated in almost every pizza restaurant in Brunei.

4. Pulut Panggang

A bite of Pulut Panggang will send your senses into overdrive without leaving you tired and unable to move. A mixture of dried shrimp, coconut and a wonderful combination of spices is encased by glutinous rice and wrapped inside a Pandan leaf. Once wrapped up , this delightful little nibble will give you a wonderful burst of South East Asian flavour and set you up perfectly for a days’ adventure in the rainforest.

5. Bamboo Chicken

Bamboo Chicken

Bamboo Chicken is unique to Borneo and has long been a secret of the Iban tribe. A bamboo cane is carefully taken down and expertly crafted to form a 1/2 meter long hollow pole. Then, cut marinated chicken is stuffed into the poles with onion and other spices and wedged shut with bamboo leaves. Next the bamboo is nestled atop an open fire, and a wonderful aroma fills the air as the chicken is slowly cooked to perfection. Couple with rice this dish is a favourite amongst our guests at the rainforest lodge.
